Each spring we get a little bit of Holland here in Virginia and this year is no exception. The owners of a small family farm known as Burnside Farms in Nokesville, Virginia plant tulip bulbs each year and expect to have more than 2.5 million blooming flowers in 2021. The bloom season for the tulip bulbs is short (generally 10 days to 2 weeks) so you have to watch their Facebook page (facebook.com/BurnsideFarms) or their Instagram page (instagram.com/BurnsideFarms) for updated information.
Right now, we are in the middle of their tulip blooms with their 2021 Festival of Spring running most days 8am-7pm (weather dependent) at their farm located at 11008 Kettle Run Rd, Nokesville, VA 20181. Because of Covid restrictions, tickets must be pre-purchased for a timed entry. The link to purchase tickets can be found through both their Facebook and Instagram pages. Tickets start from $21.50 for an adult (price depends on day of the week and time) which includes an unlimited amount of time in the flower fields and 5 stems to take home. Tickets start at $10.50 for children – no stems included with a child’s ticket. Additional tulip stems and bulbs can also be purchased on site.
There are over 14 open acres of flower fields and it’s a bit of a walk from the parking/check-in to the actual fields so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and plan for mud if we’ve had recent rains. Bug spray is also recommended. Well-behaved dogs are permitted, but must remain leashed at all times. It’s also recommended that you bring your own basket or bucket for picking. Professional photography is also permitted with a paid ticket.
In addition to flower viewing and picking, there is a nice picnic area on site if you’d like to pack a picnic basket and enjoy a meal at the farm. They also have a huge jump pad, a giant slide, a grain bin basketball area, and a play set area. More information about all of these activities and safety precautions due to Covid 19 are available through FAQs found on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
And if you enjoy this beautiful farm and flower fields, be sure to keep an eye on their social media sites for when their amazing Sunflower fields are opened at the same location later in the summer.
